Is PageRank Important?

Many SEO sites claim that pagerank is not important. They say it's just a meaningless number and doesn't directly impact the traffic your site receives. They could not be more wrong. Pagerank is the single most important number on the web. Most sites get a majority of traffic from Google. In most cases google brings in about 90% of a site's traffic via search. And how does google order search results? By Pagerank! You can have the best content in the world, the best SEO optimisation in the world, but if you don't have a decent pagerank you will not get any traffic. Pagerank is directly proportional to the amount of traffic you will receive.

Getting a good pagerank (PR 4 and above) is extremely hard and requires a fair amount of effort and ingenuity. It's because of this effort involved that many people would rather sit back and say that pagerank is not important, rather than expending the effort to improve their rankings.

Pagerank is important, but not the single most important item. Good content, well optimized pages and a reliable backlink building strategy are also very important to building your pagerank.

Don't forget that other search engines such as Bing and Yahoo etc have their own ranking methods. These ranking methods will be very similar to the system used by Google in that sites vote for sites with a link. So when you build pagerank you are actually building your 'bingrank' and 'yahoorank' as well. Climbing up the Google SERPS, means climbing up the Bing and Yahoo SERPs too.

Minimun Requirments for Bing to Index Your Blog

Everyone knows that is is extremely hard to get Bing to fully index your blog. This is even harder when your blog is using free blogging services such as google's blogger. As a bare minimum you need at least 80 posts and a page rank of 3 to be indexed. However, even when your blog is fully indexed you won't get much search traffic, because Bing is naturally shy when it comes to blogs. This is because of billions of useless 1 post blogs out there in the blogosphere.

Minimum requirements to be indexed by bing
At least 80 Posts

How We Are All Enslaved by Google

Everybody has thought about setting up a blog, slapping on some google adsense code in there, and sitting back and relaxing while the money just poured in. In a far far away galaxy maybe. On Earth, the blogosphere is a Hell. A Hell populated by bleary eyed bloggers, hunched in front of their PCs, with ten too many empty coffee cups in front of them. Their eyes have a glazed look about them as they repetitively add comments with backlinks and submit their blogs to search engines and directories. Welcome to the world that is shared by 99.9% of all bloggers.

You put up a site, embed some adsense code and then you start promoting. You sit for maybe 2 hours a day after work, breaking rest trying to promote you blog. What do you earn in return? $5 a day from google if you are lucky. That works out to about $2.5 per hour. In essence, that is how much google is paying you to work for them. I'm a self confessed google adsense slave too, only I earn about half a dollar a day so I'm working for google for about 25 cents an hour. Google is basically running first world country sweat shops.

I wish there was some way to break out of the sweat shop, but there isn't. If you give up, there will be 1000s of people who will take your place. The final irony is that you start blogging thinking you can earn money doing nothing, but end up working for nothing.
